Laura Edna Lacey, poet and dancer
Laura Edna Lacey is a Canadian poet, yoga practitioner, and dancer of Irish, English, and Scottish ancestry. She is also, by traditional adoption, a member of the Cree and Dine Nations, and the Saulteaux Bear Clan. She is grateful to be living in Treaty Six Territory, and acknowledges that settlers too are Treaty people. Her poems have appeared in her B:) Print Editions chapbook Alongside Silence, the anthology Fast Forward: New Saskatchewan Poets, and the group chapbook Food Works: plums in the icebox. She has also published poems in various magazines, including Room, The Society, and MBC Magazine.
Laura has been dancing forever, and learning Improv Dance and Contact Improvisation from Kyle and Miki since 2010. She is excited to begin performing dance now, to share her poetry with dance friends, and experience how the practices of poetry and dance can inspire and strengthen each other.
Laura is endlessly fascinated with the experience of embodiment. The body is a powerful storyteller, and it's the work of lifetimes to learn how to listen. In both her poetry and dance practices, Laura works to be present to, and concretize, some of the truths our bodies tell us. Our bodies are voices for our minds, hearts, and spirits.
